lockup (?) on autoprobing for ethernet? - tommck - 05-29-2006 When I boot the latest ISO on my Athlon XP machine, it gets to a message about autoprobing for a network card and doesn't continue. It does, however spike the CPU, because my fan kicks into high gear. Is there a way to tell it to ignore the ethernet? I don't need to ssh into it or anything... I'm just trying to test stability (the machine's been crashing hard and I think it might be a temperature issue). Thanks in advance, Tom RE: lockup (?) on autoprobing for ethernet? - stresslinux - 05-29-2006 can you tell me which ehternet driver this is ? can you post the last messages please RE: lockup (?) on autoprobing for ethernet? - tommck - 05-29-2006
can you tell me which ehternet driver this is ? can you post the last messages please
the file for the ethernet driver that locks up is: eth16i.c the machine locks up, so there's no easy way to get the messages. There are no obvious errors being displayed. Is there something specific you are looking for? The one that's connected is the NForce2 one, which resolves to "forcedeth" on the Ubuntu Live CD I have and the other one is a Marvell Gigabit connection that has no cable connected. Let me know if there's anything else you need. Tom RE: lockup (?) on autoprobing for ethernet? - stresslinux - 05-29-2006 i will add an extra boot entry in the final release, one with and one without initrd (which is loading the extra modules) RE: lockup (?) on autoprobing for ethernet? - tommck - 06-01-2006
i will add an extra boot entry in the final release, one with and one without initrd (which is loading the extra modules)
Thank you. When will that release be available? I can not get information on CPU temperature, etc. The motherboard is an Asustek A7N8X. Is there something I can do to make that work? Thanks again. Tom RE: lockup (?) on autoprobing for ethernet? - stresslinux - 06-02-2006 did you try the support search at the lm-sensors page : http://www2.lm-sensors.nu/~lm78/support2.html?search=A7N8X&sort=index RE: lockup (?) on autoprobing for ethernet? - tommck - 06-03-2006
did you try the support search at the lm-sensors page : http://www2.lm-sensors.nu/~lm78/support2.html?search=A7N8X&sort=index
I will try to do that. Now, for one more question... Why can't I test hard disk access? if I run "stress -d 2", it complains about a read-only file system. I try to mount the hard disk in my machine, it complains about it not being in the /etc/fstab. But, since the /etc/fstab is on a read-only file system, I can't test it what are my options? Sorry if this is an ignorant question, I don't know much about this stuff, but I'm trying to pin down my temperature issue. |
